Feliz Cinco de Mayo and Angela V.  Morales Day! In 1998, Mayor Lee P. Brown proclaimed Tuesday May 5, 1998 as Angela V. Morales Day.

A community leader and philanthropist, the late Angela V. Morales was one of the first licensed female funeral directors and embalmers in Harris County. Through the funeral home established by she and her husband, Felix, members of our community had access to both appropriate burial rites and cemetery space. In addition, the Morales’ founded Houston’s first Hispanic radio station, giving a voice to the Hispanic community and ensuring access to entertainment, news, and information. The success of these enterprises inspired a humanitarian spirit that enriched our community through financial assistance, support for local business enterprise, and scholarships for local students.

In honor of Angela V. Morales’s Contributions as a leader in our community, HCCS will name a new educational facility on its Eastside Campus in her loving memory at ground breaking ceremonies on May 5, 1998. Exemplifying the legacy of Angela V. Morales, this honor will remain as a lasting tribute for generations to come.
